Microsoft Words is the best known text editor around. Despite this
seemingly basic tasks such as beginning a document at page x seems to
be quite difficult to achieve.
Explanation 1. This explains
how you can start
your documents at the page number you want. This is giving the first
page in your document page number 13, the 2. page number 14 etc.
Explanation 2. You might want
to leave no page numbers on the first 8 pages in your document and
begin the numbering of pages at page number 9 with number 1.
Default settings in words
The default way of inserting page numbers in a document only gives the
choice of not putting side numbers on the first page, which is
insufficient in most cases.
Start the document with the page
number of your choice (explanation 1)
To follow these instructions you need a document with page numbers. If
you haven't inserted page numbers in your document you can do it by
clicking on insert with your mouse and choosing Page Numbers…
After this follow the instructions below:
1. Click View and
mark Header and Footer
- this takes you to the header. Your page numbers are probably in the
footer. Go to the footer by clicking on the Switch Between Header and
Footer in the dialog box. Another option is to scroll to the footer
using the mouse and clicking somewhere in the footer.
2. In the footer section, click on the page number. A little square
will appear around the page number.
3. Click on Format Page Number in the dialog box.
4. Now you can specify at what page number your document should begin
with.
Please notice that it doesn't matter on which page in your document you
perform these actions. This method (explanation 1) will give page
numbers on all pages in your document.
If this is not what you intend, please read explanation 2.
Start the document at the page number
and with the page number of your choice (explanation 2)
This is also quite easy.
